Campaign Overview

Imagine turning on the faucet and filling your cup with a murky, brown liquid. The liquid likely contains viruses, bacteria and parasites that could give you one of the many water-borne diseases found in developing countries.

Every day, close to 1 billion people wake up to another day without safe drinking water. Children are sick and weak. There is a constant struggle to find the most basic of human needs. Generations of poverty grip millions and won’t let go. The lack of safe water and adequate sanitation worldwide is a crisis. Unsafe drinking water and inadequate sanitation are believed to cause 88% of all diseases in the world.

The crisis steals the lives of 5,500 people each day – more than war, natural disasters, AIDS or hunger. The crisis rarely makes the headlines. It is today’s silent killer.

Fortunately there is a solution. Provisioning sanitation and safe drinking water can reduce the number of cases of diarrheal diseases by nearly 90% according to the World Health Organization. Supplying clean drinking water and provisioning sanitation is both affordable and effective. A single dollar invested in supplying clean drinking water can provide a return of up to 34 times.

Water Missions International (WMI) takes a comprehensive approach to combating the crisis by designing a customized safe water and sanitation solution to meet the needs of individual communities around the world. WMI is transforming communities and changing lives every day. Together we can solve the global water crisis community by community.
